OUR HERBS
Our herbs are presently sustainably wildcrafted in Whitney and surrounding area. We only pick as much as a deer might graze, along moving rivers beside the border of Algonquin Park as well as long abandoned fields and forest clearings. Raspberry leaves and the roots are picked on farms that have been unused for 10 or more years, where industrial methods never were used, and where the original owner/farmer has given us permission, and we know the lands history. Crops which can not be wildcrafted sustainably such as Red Clover and Anise Hyssop and Echinacea, are grown on certified organic farms.
A little background on the price of wildcrafted products. We choose to harvest each leaf by hand, sustainably, in the wilderness, often by canoe. We hire pickers so that we are sure it is done sustainably and often only have one or two hours in a day, if at all, when the plants are oily enough to be harvested. It is truly a gourmet product, that is competing with herbs that are sprayed, cut by tractor (we pick only the fresh oily flower tops and leaves) or so 'weak' they are flavoured by artificial oils. This description is to help you understand that in fact these teas are the finest quality available.
Drying:
Our Herbs are picked at the optimum time and dried in a clean barn at low heat in dark drying rooms.

OUR TEA STORIES
Homestead Blend is a wonderful cold remedy which was used by the early settlers. Anise Hyssop is not Anise, but does have a mild licorice flavour, hence its name. It is wonderful mixed with black tea and wonderful iced.
Sweetfern Tonic is a gentle and highly effective tonic which is designed to move toxins from lungs, blood and lymph's and then has ingredients that assist liver, kidney , gal bladder and urinary track, so the 'cleansing organs' are never burdened, but rather are gently strengthened. Excellent to use everyday.(Our customers write with great results for those with arthritis and undergoing chemo or suffering from bad skin). Sweetfern is fed to cows with stomach cancer, and seems to clear it up (I don't know if this trick has been tried on humans yet)
Lucid Dream helps you remember your dreams when taken just as you fall asleep (does not keep you awake).The plant Sweet Gale myricia gale (not to be confused with a close relative which is often given the same 'common name' in western Canada) grows along moving rivers and is picked by canoe. The roots of each plant are connected to each other underwater, and can be used by the more dedicated dreamer to 'dream with others' (Jung would have loved this plant!)
